A Vision

On a Christmas card I couldn't resist yesterday, a snow man is seen, from behind, as "he" rummages in a bag he has apparently found in the snow. "What is this? Two lumps of coal?" he exclaims, in disappointment as I inferred.

Inside, of course, the lumps of coal have become his eyes as he exclaims, "I can see! I can see!"

A mere cipher as metaphors go. And yet...
